Back when George W. Bush was still governor of Texas and thinking of running for president, he took the time to criticize President Clinton for not setting a timetable for withdrawal from Kosovo, according to Think Progress.
Bush told the Houston Chronicle in April 1999 that a president needs to define to the American people what an exit strategy is. In June 1999, Bush told The Seattle Post-Intelligencer, “I think it’s also important for the president to lay out a timetable as to how long they [troops] will be involved and when they will be withdrawn.”
President Bush vetoed a bill, as promised, Tuesday that contained a timetable for withdrawal from Iraq, according to AFP. “Setting a deadline for withdrawal is setting a date for failure, and that would be irresponsible,” he said.
